Yup! That's right, we are officially potty trained! Lyla has been working really hard to tell us when she needs to potty and make it to the potty on time. She still wears a diaper at night but she woke up this morning with a dry diaper. When she is successful we hoot and holler so loud the dogs howl!
Last Saturday we woke up and said, "Goodbye Diapers!" Literally! We took the one she had on off and said goodbye to it as we put it in the diaper pail. I showed her where he big girl panties, which we purchased the weekend before, were in her armoire and she was all set. We got some yummy treats and stationed them in each bathroom, that she uses, around our house. She likes gummy bears the best. At her daycare they do stickers so we even printed out a potty chart to put stickers on every time she tried to potty on the potty!
The last couple of days she's almost gone accident free, only one accident on Thursday because we were playing and didn't make it in time. Oh well! I'm so proud of her and how well she's done! Everything goes in the potty, even poop! According to my dad, it took me 6 months to learn to put my stinky business in the potty! I would ask for a diaper and then go hide! Maybe it was because I had a brand new baby brother! Hmmmm....
This whole potty training business has been the only thing that has kept me awake at night as a parent. I wasn't worried about childbirth, or bringing her home, or nursing or the sleepless nights. I was only worried about how I was going to get this strong willed little girl to pee pee on the potty. My advice to anyone who is nervous about the same thing is let them decide when they are ready. It also helps if 4 other kiddos at daycare are also pottying on the potty!
